At ANEW Counseling and Wellness, we understand the unique challenges faced by teenagers as they navigate the complexities of adolescence. We are committed to providing specialized teen therapy services that focus on building strong foundational values, navigating societal pressures, and addressing intense emotions. Our mission is to empower teens with the skills and support they need to thrive during this transformative time in their lives.

Reasons for Teens to Start Counseling

  • Sadness, hopelessness: Even though happiness is not consistent, there can be a dip in happiness from your child’s usual state or maybe a sense of hopelessness. A lot of times they may not even be aware of this change or are not willing to open up about them.

  • Irritability, anger, or hostility: This can be expected at this age, however, if the frequency and intensity are growing it may need extra attention to see if there is a bigger problem underneath it.

  • Change in behaviors: Change in normal behavior may be an indicator of an underling problem. Such as: Withdrawal from friends or family, loss of interest in activities, Poor school performance, difficulty concentrating, or changes in eating or sleeping habits.

  • Supporting growth: Therapy can help as well is if your teen is desiring growth and empowerment. Whether that is preparing for college or wanting to be the best version of themselves.

The Power of Therapy for Teens

Teen therapy provides a supportive and non-judgmental space for adolescents to express themselves, explore their emotions, and develop coping skills. Here's how therapy can help teens:

Navigating Societal Pressures: Today's teens face immense societal pressures, from academic expectations to social media influence and more. Therapy provide a safe space for teens to explore and navigate these pressures, helping them develop resilience, establish healthy boundaries, and make decisions aligned with their core values.

Building Strong Foundations:
We believe in the power of strong foundational values as a compass for teens. Our therapists work with teens to explore their values and develop a sense of purpose. By anchoring their decisions and actions in values, teens can build a solid foundation for personal growth and decision-making.

Personal Growth:
Therapy helps teens gain self-awareness, develop resilience, and build essential life skills that promote personal growth and well-being.

Self-esteem and Body Image: We recognize the impact of self-esteem and body image on a teen's well-being. Our therapists help teens develop a positive self-image, challenge negative beliefs, and cultivate self-compassion. We promote healthy body image and empower teens to embrace their unique qualities and strengths.

Emotional Regulation:
Teens learn to identify and regulate intense emotions, leading to improved mood, reduced anxiety, and healthier coping mechanisms.

Improved Relationships:
Therapy equips teens with effective communication skills and conflict resolution strategies, enhancing their relationships with family members, friends, and peers.

Healthy Decision-Making:
Teens develop critical thinking and decision-making skills, enabling them to make choices that align with their values and support their long-term well-being.

Supportive Environment:
Teen therapy provides a safe and confidential space where teens can freely express themselves without judgment, fostering a sense of acceptance and empowerment.

Confidentiality and Therapy for Teens

In California, minors aged 12 and up are considered adults when accessing mental health treatment. That means that your teen can decide if they want their parent involved in their treatment. Depending on your teen’s wishes, the therapist may share very little information with parents about their teen’s treatment. This law certainly has its pros and cons. But, be assured that if your teen is at risk of harming themselves or someone else, the therapist will inform the parent and take the appropriate action to keep your adolescent safe.
